I’ve really wanted to get back into doing videos. Some of you have noticed that I’ve dropped back to doing almost nothing video related over the past couple of years.
One of the biggest issues I’ve had is that as I’ve tried to improve the quality of the videos the amount of time and effort they take to do has also increased - to the point where it was hard to justify doing videos (unpaid work) over using that time for commissions (paid work).
With that in my I decided that I was going to experiment with stripping it back to basics. This review was shot with my phone. Not even a new phone - a Pixel 3A (the Pixel 7 just came out BTW). Overall, I was not displeased with the results. the sound could be better and that may necessitate recording audio separately (which adds to the work involved) but otherwise? Not bad. Workable.
The inspiration for this has actually been watching Adam Savages videos on Tested.com. He’s been doing a lot of videos where he’s shooting on his own with nothing but a phone camera and the results have been surprisingly good. Not to mention that a lot of hobbyists are starting to shoot things for TikTok which has a pretty low barrier to entry as well.
It’s not that I don’t want to have good quality videos. I do. But I also want to actually DO videos and if I can make it so that I don’t feel like the act of creating videos is stealing too much time from making money they that’s the path I want to take.
